MARCHE MADNESS
BRACKET CHALLENGE

+ BRACKETS, EXPLAINED
+ GAME RULES
+ WINE NOTES

Scoring three wines every Friday is a great way to kick off the weekend. But let’s be real- it is no simple task, especially so with a week between each event. So take a second to set up your strategy for how you’ll keep score. It’s way more fun when you’re warmed up for the game!

If you haven’t already, order your case HERE.

For the full experience, join us for our series of LIVE happy hour tasting events at 5:30pm PST / via Zoom / invite links and Meeting ID’s are sent prior to the event. If you’re unable to attend those, not to worry, as each session will be posted on our YouTube channel for later viewing.

All information about how to play the game, recordings, access to brackets, and rules for bracket submission, can be found below. You must follow the few rules to be considered for THE GRAND PRIZE: a Private Virtual Tasting with Kevin. Wines included. Yes, indeed, that is the money shot.

We recommend using the below simplified scoring system for the wines as you go along. This system will help you when it is time to fill out the full brackets sheet at the end of the month.  *Be sure to utilize ½ points as they may end up being the deciding factor between two wines down the road.

You must enter a bracket to win the prize.

💟💟💟  – UP TO 3 HEARTS

How much do you LOVE the wine on a pure pleasure scale? Is it 2 Hearts or 2.5 Hearts? Or does it fill your 3 hearts with joy?

☆☆☆  – UP TO 3 STARS

How good is the wine in technical terms? You don’t have to know much about wine, simply note if it feels complex? Balanced? Funky? And is that a good or bad thing?

• You can just as easily have a 3 💟 / 1 ☆ wine as you could a 3 ☆ wine that you just don’t care for.

• BY NO MEANS do the winning wines on your bracket need to have a perfect 3 💟 + 3 ☆.

• It’s really all up to you and your gut (and palate) feelings.

• When we’ve finished all four tasting events – refer back to your notes and your scores. Then make those tough ‘head to head’ bracket decisions until you’ve crowned your personal champion wine.

Be sure your white wines are chilled beforehand and we always recommend you open ALL your wines before the event – a little bit of air is always a good thing for any wine, and then you’re just ready to enjoy. What glassware to use? Can’t go wrong with your biggest and best.

All brackets MUST be received by Midnight on Sunday, April 4th in order to be considered for the Grand Prize.

We’ll take a count once they’re all in. The winner is based on the average compilation of all votes from ALL bracket stages. Be sure to fill them all in!

Please use the form in the next tab. You must follow the instructions for submission. One entry per person.

WEEK ONE

Twirling Truffles: This first round features three wines made from very unique grape varieties that (free) range: two from stunning Adriatic Coastline and one nestled way up in the Northern foothills of the Apennine Mountains. Pergola is home territory of the Aleatico Grape that lies just south of the famous walled city of Urbino. A small city that draws everyone from avid mountain cyclists to art history buffs to the culinarily curious, as it is also a super secret hot spot for seriously good black and white truffles (shhh).

WEEK TWO

Scuttling Scampi: Round two keeps us on the Adriatic shore the whole way- such bliss. The Conero DOCG wine appellation is entirely within a protected national park. Mount Conero is the centerpiece of this beautiful limestone geographic anomaly along the Adriatic Sea. The picturesque white cliffs, beaches and insanely fresh seafood are more the attraction here than the Montepulciano that grows all around them. But once you’re there, you really can’t take in one without the other. Thankfully.

WEEK THREE

Romping Rabbits: Here in Round three Verdicchio is the feature, but the Lacrima grape is a clear local favorite, especially as a daily sipper for the locals. This handful of growers (seriously, maybe 20?) are all pretty tightly knit crew all within this small appellation a stones throw from the Adriatic. They take the responsibility of championing such a unique, ancient and challenging grape variety with great pride and in Italian stride. By that we mean deliberated over lots and lots of long lunches. One insanely good and classically Marchegiani treat is ‘Coniglio in Porchetta’ – or Rabbit made in the style of Porchetta.

Bouncing Boars: Castello dei Jesi, one of the fourteen hilltop castle cities, is the name of appellation that covers the rolling landscape central of Marche. Verdicchio is scattered throughout lots of wide open farmland and the differences in wines can often be attributed to the vineyards proximity to either the mountains or the sea. Rosso Piceno overlaps much of the same area and the views are as abundant and impressive as the local flavors. Local Boar is one such flavor you may find at breakfast, lunch and dinner as there is a healthy population here due to the number of protected wild areas still peppered throughout the region.
